The breezy Vie Lounge by the sea was the venue for the launch of the Nike sportswear line. Snazzy shoes caught your eyes, those on display and even those worn by the guests who walked in making their own style statement. Full power people, crazy music, lots of drinks and killer fun was what they promised and they lived up to all that at this thrilling night. Making their presence felt was the glamour brigade of Candice Pinto, Viveka Babajee, Shonali Nagrani and Tinu Verghis, fitness expert Leena Mogre with husband Nikhil and singer Hard Kaur. The Nike sportswear icons were presented by fashion designer Rocky S, India football captain Baichung Bhutia, tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi, actor and TV host Mandira Bedi, supermodel Sheetal Mallar and singing diva Anushka Manchanda. The party was rocking with a performance by the B-boys along with music by DJ Mat. Ruby night

The prescribed dress code of a touch of ruby was seen at the 40th anniversary of The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) that included a presentation of the fifth Indo-American Corporate Excellence (IACE) Awards on the lawns of Lincoln House housing the American consulate. Hosts Anand Desai, regional president, IACC-WIC, US consul general Paul Folmsbee and Atul Nishar, chairman of the Jury, IACE Awards were there to welcome the many guests. Ambassador Janice Jacobs, assistant secretary, Bureau for Consular Affairs, US State Department, was the guest of honour. Speeches straight from the heart, a fashion show by Nishka Lulla for Provogue and music by the band Something Relevant formed part of the proceedings. Of course, there was also cocktails and dinner. Compered by Tisca Chopra, the night saw the presence of Vivek Oberoi with parents Yashodhara and Suresh Oberoi and sister Meghna, Arti and Kailash Surendranath, Naved and Javed Jaffery and Farid Currim among many others.

Winning ways

The ninth annual Teacher's Achievement Awards night was, as usual, an exquisite affair. The scene was at the ballroom of Taj Lands End with Teacher's Origin, the drink of choice among the mix of guests from the film, corporate, sports and fashion fraternity. Lara Dutta, Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan, Ramesh Sippy, Prasoon Joshi, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan, Bikram Saluja, Schauna Chauhan and Matt Shattock, president and CEO, Beam Global Spirits & Wine were there at this grand event hosted by the father-daughter duo of Kabir Bedi and Pooja Bedi. Besides the awards, there was plenty of entertainment in the form of a psychedelic and fluorescent dance performance by the Terence Lewis troupe, followed by a chat show hosted by Boman Irani featuring Sunita Menon, a truth-or-lie spoof with Arshad Warsi and Mandira Bedi, a fashion sequence by Vikram Phadnis and a song duet by Manasi Scott and Uday Benegal. The cheer was on as Vinita Bali bagged the award in the business category, Priyanka Chopra in the entertainment category, Iqbal Mohammed for communication and Saina Nehwal for sports. Receiving a standing ovation was Gulzar who won the lifetime achievement award of the year.

And looking very happy indeed was Harish Moolchandani, CEO and MD, India and Indian subcontinent, Beam Global Spirits and Wine, India.

Cutting edge

The ballroom of Grand Hyatt was the happy venue for a hair flair show at the L'Oreal Professionel night. Cutting-edge cuts and colours of the autumn/winter 09/10 collection, inspired by the timeless beauty of music, were in store for the many guests. There was rock and folk genres of music that enraptured you. After the wine hour the show began with model twins Tupur and Tapur Chatterji strumming their guitars while walking down the ramp. The stage was reminiscent of a rock concert with rock music blaring as the models proudly presented their rock star hairdos and also some soft and romantic hairdos inspired by folk music. L'Oreal ambassador and one of the best hairdressers in the world Laurent Decreton was seen in action, snipping and clipping, trimming and tossing the hair of the models and giving them a totally new look in a span of a few minutes. Assisting him was renowned choreographer and stylist Jean-Francois Veran. India's top hairstylists Adhuna Akhtar of B:blunt, Aalim of Hakim's Aalim, Sumit Israni of Geetanjali, Bina Punjani of Looks and Sachin Dakoji of Manea also showed off their styles. It was an edgy experience with exaggerated cuts and layering techniques at the rock collection with intense, accentuated colours, warm, golden touches and iridescent, shining shades. The folk universe was a story of soft, subdued and sophisticated looks with a combination of cooler colours and intense browns. Rock and folk attires added impact.
