GAINESVILLE, Fla., Apr 4, 2008 (PrimeNewswire via COMTEX) -- When the 64th annual Florida Relays competition gets underway today at the University of Florida, athletes will be taking their marks on a Mondo Super X Performance track.
One of the premier spring events on the collegiate and scholastic track and field calendar, the Florida Relays annually draws more than 3,000 collegiate and high school athletes from across the nation. Among the universities competing this year are Bethune-Cookman, Central Florida, Florida, Florida A&M, Florida State, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi and North Carolina. The Relays will take place at Percy Beard Track in the university's James G. Pressly Stadium.
The Mondo Super X Performance track was installed just last year.
"After extensive research on the many surfaces available, I came to the conclusion that Mondo was the best surface for our men's track and field program," said Michael D. Holloway, head men's track and field coach, University of Florida. "The majority of our teams' time is spent training on the track. I felt we needed a surface that would be ideal for constant training and that would hold up over time to all uses, including athletes, students and local youth clubs. The Mondo surface has been better than I thought possible. We have not had to adjust our training regimen in any way, nor have we had any injuries that can be related to the track. Our athletes love training on the surface. I also am excited about hosting competitions as I expect that we will see many great performances on this surface."
The world's top track for more than 30 years, Mondo Super X Performance has been installed at more than 1,100 venues globally. Recognized around the world as the fastest, most durable and environmentally safest track available, it has been used in the past eight Olympic Games, and Mondo is the official supplier to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing for athletic tracks.
"Many athletes have achieved faster times when running on Mondo tracks versus other surfaces," said Federico Stroppiana, president of Mondo North and South America. "Nearly 230 world records and countless national and personal bests have been set on Mondo tracks."
Super X Performance was developed to maintain its initial physical properties throughout its life, so it provides consistent performance. The vulcanized natural rubber surface provides maximum elasticity and unparalleled durability, and its embossed, textured finish makes it extremely easy to maintain with no resurfacing required. This high-performance track is renowned for its shock absorption and optimal energy return, and its ideal blend of speed and comfort minimizes the occurrence of injuries.
